DISTRICT FOOD SERVICE MEAL CHARGING POLICY

The District recognizes that there may be times when a student does not have sufficient funds in their meal account. To ensure students have access to meals while encouraging timely payment of meal balances, the following procedures will apply:

● Students may charge school meals up to a maximum negative balance of $30.00.
● Parents/guardians will begin receiving notifications from the District when a student's meal account balance exceeds $10.00 in unpaid charges.
● Families are encouraged to make prompt payments to maintain a positive account balance and avoid interruptions in meal service.
● Repeated or excessive abuse of meal charging privileges may result in the student being served an alternative meal until the account is brought current. The alternative meal will consist of a SunButter sandwich, the vegetable of the day, and milk.
● Applications for the Free and Reduced-Price Meal Program are available throughout the school year. Families experiencing financial hardship are encouraged to apply at any time to determine eligibility.
● Beginning May 1 of each school year, no additional meal charges will be permitted for students or staff. All meal purchases after May 1 must be paid for at the time of service unless otherwise required by applicable state or federal law.
● Outstanding meal balances are expected to be paid in full by the end of the school year.

Free and Reduced Meal Program applications are available here or from your child's school office. Applications are also part of the online enrollment/registration form.
